Special Public Lecture

Geometry: the archetype of beauty

Radnovic

This year, the Sydney Mathematical Research Institute is organising three exciting events for the International Day of Mathematics (Pi Day) over 12–14 March 2024. Please register by Tuesday 7 March.

Thursday 14 March: The Pi Day public lecture for everyone with an interest in maths will take place at 6pm in the Messel lecture theatre (Sydney Nanoscience Hub).

Geometry was born from practical needs in ancient civilisations. Over the years, geometry has pushed boundaries of abstract and philosophical thought, facilitated scientific discoveries, and left an imprint in the finest art pieces.
Join Milena Radnović for “Geometry: the archetype of beauty“, a journey through the field of geometry.

High school students are invited to two after-school workshops (4:00–6:00pm) in Law Annex Seminar Room 342:
Tuesday 12 March: “Fold and cut theorem” presented by Andy Tran and Thomas Zheng
Wednesday 13 March: “Ruler-and-compass vs origami” presented by Zsuzsanna Dancso
Students considering higher-level mathematics study are highly encouraged to attend.

Registration info: Find further information on the SMRI webpost.
